Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Who is the program for?

The DBT program is designed for individuals with long-standing behavioural and emotional difficulties, in particular, those with a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) or Borderline Personality Traits.
 

How will it help me?

DBT is a skills-based program which aims to teach participants alternative strategies in managing their emotions, relationships and crises more effectively. These strategies are both change and acceptance focused.
 

When does it run?

The DBT Program is 12 months in length and consists of six, 7-week modules.

Intakes occurs throughout the year at the end of each 7-week module.

The modules consists of:

  • Mindfulness
  • Distress Tolerance skills 
  • Emotion Regulation skills; and
  • Interpersonal Effectiveness skills.

Participants in the DBT Program attend a group session each week on a Monday at 9.30am to 3.00pm.  
 

How much does it cost?

All referrals are subject to a health fund check prior to admission or commencing a program and prior approval is sought for compensable for Workcover, TAC and Department of Veterans’ affairs (DVA) patients.

Our Day Program Administration Officer will do a health fund check and give you feedback on whether your cover includes day program and whether there are any out of pocket expenses.
 

How do I access the program?

Admission to a Day Program requires a referral from a psychiatrist accredited with The Victoria Clinic. If you do not have a psychiatrist, we can arrange this for you. 

A referral from your GP requesting an initial consultation with one of our Psychiatrists could be your first step.

During your admission: 

You will be required to have regular reviews with your psychiatrist whilst attending the day program.
